I am not a superstitious person, heck most people I know well would say I am logical to a fault. But I believe in the law of attraction and I believe it is a valuable tool for anyone who is working on presenting themselves better.
Let me explain.
I don't believe in the version of the law of attraction which comes to mind for most people. You know, "The Secret" (that book written by Rhonda Byrne) which says all you have to do is imagine checks coming to you in the mail and it will happen.
Nah, that is absolutely insane.
My understanding of the law of attraction comes from a 106 year old book called "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles. This is the book which the secret and countless other self help books have been based off of. And like most things, from star-wars to Oreo's flavors, The original is the best.
Unlike modern books which promote wishful and unrealistic thinking, wattles book shows the real value of the law of attraction. In a nutshell it is this:
- Put yourself in a state of gratitude
- Make sure that you give massive value to others through your work
- Use visualization as fuel to work harder
- Get clear on your goals so that you focus your time on the right activities to achieve them
- Get into a growing profession
- Make sure that the fee you are asking for your service or product is less than the practical value to the end consumer
When the law of attraction is seen from this perspective it seems more practical and logical, right?
Unlike modern manuals which read like exercises in daydreaming, Wattles book reads like a manual on how to run a business and a life successfully.
The way I see it, many of the skills in this book are the skills of communicating well with other people.
This is the real magic I see in the law of attraction, when you get your mindset right you are able to sell and communicate more effectively.
The way I believe the law of attraction works is that when you put yourself in the right head-space you sub-communicate that attractive mindset.
Let me explain.
Sub-communications are the subtle ways we communicate from tone of voice to body language to word choice. They show how we feel on a totally subconscious level. Sub-communications are out of our control and usually are seen by your audience unconsciously. Poor sub-communications are the reason someone will get a bad feeling about a person but not quite be able to put their finger on why.
This is why it matters so much that we get our mindset right. When our mindset is right, our subtle body language will show what our motives are and the other person will get a good gut feeling about us.
To sum it up, I think that the law of attraction works.... and even if in no other way, it works because changing your mindset will enable you to be a better communicator and that is a skill that over-indexes for success.
